ETL functions are crucial whenever two or more information systems need to exchange data. This can involve the need for a CRM to integrate with a transaction system, the financial system, the scheduling system, etc. ETL functions are also needed for analytical purposes when the data to be examined lives in different, unfriendly, if not warring, information systems. Without assembling the data in a single integrated database, use of data mining, business intelligence tools or other statistical applications is difficult.

ETL Plus* is ETL your way. We can unbundle any of the three ETL services(extract, transform or load), or once system integration is in place, or a core database has been loaded, we can provide added value including data wrangling so your data is correct and usable.

The key steps:

Extract – We identify and collect the data needed for the project, whether it’s in physical or digital form and pool it all together to make sure all relevant information has been gathered.
Transform – Individual fields must match in type and value. Transformation occurs when a number field is reset as alphanumeric to match other inputs. Lookup values must be standardized across datasets. It may be necessary to build a scoring system to build a probability matching function for names, addresses, and other key components. A simple example would be removing duplicates from a mailing list where the list is composed of data from different sources.
Load – The appropriately transformed data must then be inserted or updated in the receiving system. For a backend database, simple SQL may do the trick. If an API must be addressed – as the receiving application enforces data integrity through a thick front end client, then custom code is a likely need.
